Common Name: Hume’s Boobook
Scientific Name: Ninox obscura

Distribution: Endemic to the Andaman Islands, India, in the Bay of Bengal.

Biology: Found in lowland forest throughout the Andaman archipelago, Hume’s Boobook is know to prefer areas along water including those found in the vicinity of human settlements. The species main diet consists of insects, but locals also reports that the species hunts rodents along roads and in cultivated fields.

IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
Despite its small distribution, the population of Hume’s Boobook is considered stable and the species seem to have adapted well to human alteration of its original habitat. However, like many species of owl, information on population trend can be difficult to determine, and more fieldwork is required to support the estimated population status.
