Common Name: Comoro Pigeon
Scientific Name: Columba pollenii

Distribution: Found throughout the Comoros Archipelago, from Grand Comoro in the west, to Mayotte in the east.

Biology: The Comoro Pigeon is the largest species of native pigeon in the Comoros, and can be found in the evergreen forest of the islands, typically more common at higher elevations, away from human settlements. It is, like its relatives, a frugivirous species, and feeds on smaller fruit and berries in the canopy, thus avoiding some competition from the Comoros Blue and Green pigeon that typically goes after the larger fruits, like figs.

IUCN Conservation Status: Near Threatened
The Comoro Pigeon is a forest species, and does not seem to adapt well to human-modified landscape and are thus threatened by the ongoing destruction of its habitat, seen throughout the archipelago. Poaching of the avian species on the island is still a problem, and since the species is large it is often favoured by hunters, its tameness making it easy to approach and therefore an easy target.
The current population is considered to be around 10.000 individuals at most, but probably notably less.
