Common Name: Comoro Blue-pigeon
Scientific Name: Alectroenas sganzini

Distribution: Found in the Comoros Archipelago as well as the Aldabra atoll in the Seychelles, with one subspecies in each location, the one from the Comoros being the nominate race.
The species is found in evergreen forest throughout these islands, both remnant as well as degraded, but also in dry scrub habitat on Aldabra.

Biology: Like its relatives this species of pigeon is frugivirous, with figs making up a large portion of its diet. It is a fast flyer, and can often be seen in glimpses when it darts through the trees, on its way from one foraging spot to another. The white hackles on its neck is used for display, the males puffing them up, making them appear larger.

IUCN Conservation Status: Near Threatened
The totality of the global population has not been determined. The species is still relatively common in the Comoros, despite heavy degradation of natural environments and continued poaching. It can be found in logged forests on Anjouan (Comoros) showing possibly adaptation to human altered environments, which may be a good sign for its continued existence in the archipelago. The population on Aldabra has seen a noteworthy increase following the eradication of goats from the atoll, which has allowed the local community of plants to recover.
