Common Name: Seychelles Blue-pigeon
Scientific Name: Alectroenas pulcherrimus
Distribution: Found in mature forest throughout the Seychelles archipelago, in the Indian Ocean at the eastern edge of the Somali Sea.
Biology: A forest bird, the Seychelles Blue-pigeon is a frugivirous columbiform, that, with its stricking plumage, can be spotted in the canopy where the birds forage typically in pairs, or by itself.
IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
Being a leading country in nature conservation, the Seychelles has protected 42% of its natural environment. At one pont the Seychelles Blue-pigeon was considered threatened or at least vulnerable to extinction, however since the dedicated conservation of its habitat the species has rebounded and recolonised previous habitat, and the current population is considered stable.
