Scientific Name: Treron griveaudi

Distribution: Only found in mature and semi degraded forest on the island of Moheli, the smallest island in the Comoros Archipelago

Biology: With its been plumage he Comoros Green-Pigeon easy blends in with the surroundings of its forest environment when it moves around in the canopy, while foraging for fruit and leaves. One of the most important food sources of the species is the native fig, the pigeons feeding both on the fruits and sprouts of these trees.

IUCN Conservation Status: Endangered
The Comoros ecosystems are some of the most threatened on the planet, since almost none of the contry’s territory is protected for natural conservation, and those that are are still getting exploited. The Comoros Green-Pigeon is only found on the island of Moheli, where good quality remnant forest currently still exists, however the degradation of this habitat is heavy and accelerating. The pigeons are protected by national law, however hunting of this bird, as well as other protected species, unfortunately still occurs.
The population is estimated at around 2,500 individuals, however further research into the species and its distribution is needed to re-acces its status.
